[001] The invention relates to a seat assembly for a motor vehicle seat. More particularly, the invention relates to a seat rail assembly for selectively adjusting a seat assembly within a range of comfortable positions and moving the seat assembly to an easy entry position ahead of the response position range to the pivot on the seat back pivot to a tilting position.
Description of Related Art [002] Automotive vehicles include seat assemblies to support occupants within the vehicle. A typical seat assembly includes a seat cushion and seat back operatively coupled to the seat cushion by a reclining mechanism allowing for selective pivoting adjustment of the seat back relative to the seat cushion between a plurality of reclined rear seat positions. The seat back is also often pivotally movable to a tilted tilting position to allow entry and exit to a seat back assembly or storage area located behind the seat assembly.
[003] It is known in the automotive seating technique to provide a seat rail assembly that slidably interconnects the rail assembly to a vehicle floor. The seat rail assembly provides forward and backward movement of the seat assembly along the floor to allow an occupant to select a forward / backward seat position within a range of comfort positions. The seat rail assembly generally includes a floor mounted bottom or fixed rail
Petition 870190030560, of 03/29/2019, p. 6/50 / 10 of the vehicle and an upper or movable rail slidingly engaging the fixed rail and mounted on a bottom surface of the seat cushion. A locking mechanism is operationally coupled between the mobile and fixed rails and selectively lock the mobile rail in relation to the fixed rail.
[004] It is also known to operationally couple the backrest and the locking mechanism such that when the backrest is pivoted on a pivot for the tilting position, the seat rail assembly is unlocked allowing the seat assembly to move forward to a position easy entry. With the seat backrest in the tilting position and the seat assembly in the easy-to-enter position, entry and exit to the seatback assembly or storage area is made even easier.
[005] It is desirable to provide an improved seat rail assembly to selectively adjust a seat assembly among a plurality of forward and backward seat positions within a range of comfort positions. It is also desirable to provide an improved rail assembly to move the seat assembly to an easily entry position in front of the range of seating positions in response to pivoting the seat back to a tilting position.
summary of the invention [006] In accordance with an aspect of the present invention a seat rail assembly includes an operable rail for sliding movement of a seat assembly between a range of comfort positions and an easy entry position. The range of comfort positions includes a comfort position forward and the easy entry position is arranged forward from the comfort position forward. A horizontal bar is pivotally attached to the seat rail in a first pivot. A drive lever is pivotally attached to the seat rail on the first pivot and is directly attached to the horizontal bar for pivoting movement between them. The actuation lever unlocks the seat rail and allows movement

Petition 870190030560, of 03/29/2019, p. 8/50 / 10 detailed description of the settings.
[008] With reference to the Figures, a seat assembly for use in an automotive vehicle is generally shown at 10. Seat assembly 10 includes a seat back 12 operationally coupled to a seat cushion 14 by a reclining mechanism 13 that allows pivoting movement on a selective pivot of the seat backrest 12 in relation to the seat cushion 14 between a plurality of seat positions reclined backwards and a tilted forward position. The backrest of seat 12 is normally requested towards the tilting position shown in Figure
2. In Figure 1, the seat back 12 is shown being in one of the positions within the plurality of reclining back seat positions. The reclining mechanism 13 is selectively unlocked to adjust the backrest of the seat 12 among the plurality of positions of reclining seat positions to the rear by means of a reclining lever 15. As is known, within the vehicle seating technique, the assembly of a rail track. seat, generally shown at 16, is provided for slidably interconnecting the seat assembly 10 to a floor 18 of the vehicle. The seat rail assembly 16 allows for selective adjustment forwards and backwards of the seat assembly 10 in a longitudinal direction along the floor of the vehicle 18. The rail assembly 16 includes a pair of insulated and laterally spaced rails 20, however, only one is shown in the Figures. It is appreciated that in the pair of seat rails the rails are substantially the same.
[009] With reference also to Figure 4, the seat rail 20 includes a fixed bottom rail 22 and a movable top rail24. In the configuration shown, the fixed rail 22 is mounted on the floor of the vehicle 18 by front and rear tie rods 26 and 28. The mobile rail 24 is adapted to be fixedly attached to the underside of the seat cushion 14 and is slidably coupled to the fixed rail 22 through longitudinal sliding movement in relation to it. Therefore, when the mobile rail 24 slides in relation to the
Petition 870190030560, of 03/29/2019, p. 9/50 / 10 fixed rail 22, the seat assembly 10 moves back and forth in the longitudinal direction.
[0010] The seat rail 20 includes a locking mechanism 29 for locking the movable rail 24 with respect to the fixed rail 22 thereby locking the seat assembly 10 in one, within a plurality of forward and backward positions within one range of comfort positions, as is commonly known by a person specialized in the technique. The range of comfort positions for seat set 10 is defined between a forward comfort position shown in A in Figure 1, and a back comfort position shown in B in Figure 1. Locking mechanism 29 is operable between a locked position preventing sliding movement of the movable rail 24 in relation to the fixed rail 22 and an unlocked condition allowing sliding movement of the movable rail 24 in relation to the fixed rail 22. The locking mechanism 29 is requested in the direction of the locked condition such that the the movable rail 24 is normally attached to the fixed rail 22. The locking mechanism 29 is actuated from the locked condition to the unlocked condition, by lifting the horizontal bar 30. The horizontal bar 30 extends forward from under the seat cushion 14, as is well known in the art.
[0011] With reference to Figures 4 and 5, the horizontal bar 30 is pivotally coupled to pivot 32 for a mounting bracket 34 that is fixedly attached to an upper surface 36 of the movable rail 24. The mounting bracket 34 is configured to include a horizontal portion 38 fixedly attached to the upper surface 36 of the movable rail 24 and a vertical portion 40 extending downwardly from the horizontal portion 38 adjacent to an inner side of the seat rail 20. A distal end 42 of the horizontal bar 30 is pivotally coupled to pivot 32 to the vertical portion 40 extending downwardly from the horizontal portion 38 adjacent to an inner side of the seat rail 20. A distal end 42 of the horizontal bar
Petition 870190030560, of 03/29/2019, p. 10/50 / 10 is pivotally coupled to pivot 32 for the vertical portion 40 of the mounting bracket 34. A drive lever 44 is disposed laterally between the distal end 42 of the horizontal bar 30 and the vertical portion 40 of the mounting bracket 34 and it is also pivotally coupled to pivot 32. The drive lever 44 extends between a first end 46 and a second end 48. The drive lever 44 is pivotally coupled 32 between the first and second ends 46, 48. The first end 46 of the drive lever 44 is coupled to the horizontal bar 30 in such a way that the drive lever 44 pivots on the pivot with it. That is, the drive lever 44 includes an outwardly protruding flap portion 45 extending through an association slot 47 on the horizontal bar 20 to interlock the drive lever 44 and the horizontal bar 30. The second end 48 the drive lever 44 is coupled to an axis 50 of the locking mechanism 29, a portion of which is shown in Figure 5, extending from within the seat rail 20. Raising the horizontal bar 30 pivots the drive lever 44 around pivot 32 in a first direction (clockwise when viewed from Figure 4) and pushes shaft 50 down, which pushes locking mechanism 29 from the locked condition to the unlocked condition. As stated above, with the locking mechanism 29 in the unlocked condition, the movable rail 24 is slidably movable relative to the fixed rail 22 and the seat assembly 10 can be positioned in any of the plurality of forward positions and backward between the forward comfort position A and the forward comfort position B.
[0012] In normal operation, adjusting the longitudinal position of the seat assembly 10 by lifting the horizontal bar 30 does not allow the seat assembly 10 to slide forward beyond the comfort position forward because the stop lever 52 engages in the stop support 54. The lever
Petition 870190030560, of 03/29/2019, p. Stop 11/50 / 10 52 is arranged laterally between the distal end 42 of the horizontal bar 30 and the drive lever 44 and is also pivotably coupled 32. The stop lever 52 extends between a first end 56 and a second end 58. The first end 56 of the stop lever 52 is pivotally coupled to pivot 32. The second end 58 of the stop lever 52 includes a downwardly projecting hook 60 adapted to engage the stop support 54. The stop support 54 is fixedly attached to the fixed rail 22. The second end 58 of the stop lever 52 pivots between a lowered position, shown in Figure 4, and a raised position shown in Figure 5. When the second end 58 of the stop lever 52 is at lowered position and the seat assembly 10 is slid in front of the hook 60 engages the stop support 54 and for the seat assembly 10 in the forward comfort position A.
[0013] The seat rail 20 also includes a cam 62 to actuate the locking mechanism from the locked condition to the unlocked condition and simultaneously raising the second end 58 of the stop lever 52 to the raised position to prevent the hook 60 it engages with the stop support 54 such that the seat assembly 10 is free to slide forward beyond the comfort position A to an easy entry position C, shown in Figure 3. Cam 62 is pivotally coupled to pivot 64 a a flap 66 that extends from the horizontal portion 38 of the mounting bracket 34 and is ordered in a first direction (clockwise in Figure 4) by a torsion spring 67. Cam 62 includes a first cam end 68 and a second cam end 70. The first cam end 68 is adapted to engage the second end 48 of the drive lever 44 to actuate the locking mechanism 29 from condition tr advanced to the unlocked condition. The second cam end 70 includes a pin 72 that extends laterally into a closed groove 74 in the second
Petition 870190030560, of 03/29/2019, p. 12/50 / 10 end 58 of the stop lever 52, thus coupling the cam 62 and the stop lever 52. In response to the pivoting of the cam 62 in a second direction (counterclockwise in Figure 4) to a pivoted position, the first cam end 68 engages the second end 48 of the drive lever 44 and pivots the drive lever 44 in the first direction around the pivot 32 thus pushing the shaft 50 downwards, which drives the locking mechanism 29 from the condition locked to condition unlocked. Simultaneously, the second end of bed 70 raises the second end 58 of the stop lever 52 to the raised position due to the coupling of the cam 62 and the stop lever 52 through pin 72. When the second end 58 of the stop lever 52 is in the raised position and the seat assembly 10 is slid in front of the hook 60 passes over the stop support 54 and allows the seat assembly 10 to move to the easy entry position C. It is appreciated that the seat rail assembly16 include a spring for tilting the seat assembly 10 to the easy entry position C.
[0014] A Bowden 76 type cable is operationally coupled between the seat backrest 12 and cam 62. The cable 76 pivots cam 62 in the second direction in response to pivoting the seat backrest 12 from one of the seating positions reclined back to the tilting position. Thus, pivoting the seat backrest 12 for tilting position pushes the locking mechanism 29 from the locked condition to the unlocked condition and simultaneously raises the second end 58 of the stop lever 52 to the raised position allowing the seat assembly 10 to slide forward to the easy entry C position. The entry and exit to the seat back assembly or storage area is increased when the seat back 12 is in the tilting position and seat set 10 is in the easy entry C position.
[0015] To return the set 10 to a seating position one
Petition 870190030560, of 03/29/2019, p. 13/50 / 10 the user pushes back on the seat backrest 12, which slides the seat assembly 10 backwards towards the range of comfort positions. The demand of the seat backrest 12 towards the tilting position is greater than the request of the seat assembly 10 towards the easy entry position such that the seat backrest 12 remains in the tilting position as the seat assembly 10 slides back towards the range of comfort positions. With the seat backrest 12 in the tilting position, the cable 76 keeps the cam 62 in the pivoted position such that the locking mechanism 29 remains in the unlocked condition and the second end 58 of the stop lever 52 remains in the raised position. Once the seat assembly 10 reaches the comfort position B behind the movable rail 24 it stops sliding in relation to the fixed rail 22. The user pushing the seat backrest 12 back now overcomes the request of the seat backrest 12 thus pivoting the seat backrest 12 from the tilting position to one of the seat positions reclined backwards. Pivoting the seat backrest 12 to one of the reclined rear seat positions releases the cable 76 and the request of the torsion spring 67 pivots the cam 62 in the first direction. As the cam 62 pivots in the first direction, the locking mechanism 29 returns to the locked position and the second end 58 of the stop lever 52 returns to the lowered position. The seat assembly 10 can now be adjusted using the horizontal bar 30 to any of the forward and backward positions within the comfort position range.
[0016] Alternatively, the cable 76 can be prematurely released if the request of the seat back 12 towards the tilting position is deliberately overcome by forcing the seat back 12 to pivot from the tilting position to one of the reclined back positions before sliding the seat assembly 10 from the entry position C. in this example, the locking mechanism 29 will not return to the locked condition contained because the hook 60 is placed above a surface
Petition 870190030560, of 03/29/2019, p. 14/50 / 10 upper horizontal 78 of the stop support 54. Thus, the hook 60 engages the horizontal upper surface 78 of the stop support 54, which prevents the second end 58 of the stop lever 52 from returning to the lowered position. Since the second end 58 on the stop lever 52 cannot return to the lowered position, the cam 62 remains in the pivoted position, which in turn keeps the locking mechanism 29 in the unlocked condition. The hook 60 passes along the horizontal top surface 78 of the stop support 54 as the seat assembly 10 slides back towards the range of comfort positions. Once the seat assembly 10 reaches the forward comfort position A, the hook 60 falls on the horizontal top surface 78 of the stop support 54 and the second end 58 of the stop lever 52 returns to the lowered position. As the second end 58 of the stop lever 52 returns to the lowered position, the cam 62 pivots in the first direction allowing the locking mechanism 29 to return to the locked condition. The seat assembly 10 can now be adjusted using the horizontal bar 30 for any of the forward / backward positions within the comfort position range.
[0017] The invention has been described here in an illustrative manner, and it should be understood that the terminology used is intended to be more descriptive than limiting. Many modifications of variations of the present invention are possible in light of the above teachings. Therefore, it should be understood that within the scope of the appended claims, the invention can be practiced in a different way from those specifically listed in that description.
